How You Can Make A Difference For The Environment
Buy fresh fruit and vegetables rather than processed foods. (You'll be eating healthier too!)
Don't buy packaged things if equivalent items are available without packaging.
When you must buy packaging, be sure the packaging can be recycled.
Recycle everything you can.
If your community has a recycling program, check to insure that it handles all recyclable material.
Turn off unnecessary lights and adjust your clothing to save energy from heating and air conditioning. (You'll save money on your electrical bill too.)
When you need to replace an appliance, particularly an air conditioner, refrigerator or water heater, buy one which is energy efficient.
Conserve water.
Learn about the current environmental issues in your state and locality.
Write your elected representatives often to let them know how you feel about environmental protection and conservation of natural resources.
Join local, state-wide and national conservation organizations (like the League) to lend your support to conservation issues. There is a good list of these organizations in Florida under EFF.
Contribute to the Environmental Fund for Florida at your company's employee-giving campaign. If you don't have an employee-giving campaign at your employer, or if EFF isn't a participant in it, call EFFAND tell your employer you want to have a chance for you and your fellow employees to give to help your state's environment.
